Sprucing Up Your Mailbox

We’ve previously posted news and mentioned in many newsletters the importance of keeping your mailbox in good repair and in compliance. We’ve also mentioned that the HOA Board will levy fines for mailboxes not in compliance.

An example of a great Forest Lakes mailbox.

Today we’d like to share a blog post giving tips on how you can spruce up your mailbox on your own.

Read Here!

This is a great project anyone can take on but should you lack the time, you can also enlist help! See below.

Finally, if your mailbox needs to be replace, the HOA has preapproved 2 mailboxes (seen below) from popular retailers, Amazon and Wayfair.

You may find other options but please make sure to reach out to the HOA before using other options to ensure that you don’t incur fines.

Reminders About the Most Common Complaints and Fines

We wanted to provide a reminder about some of the most common complaints and fines from around the neighborhood. See below:

  • vehicles/boats/trailers parked visibly in front yards or sidewalks*

  • mailboxes unpainted and falling apart

  • trash cans being left out and not pulled in neatly beside the resident's home (out of sight when possible)

  • Lawn overgrowth in the warmer months

* street parking of motor vehicles is monitored and enforced by Shelby County/City of Chelsea, the HOA is working to address any other violators.

We appreciate all the feedback we receive if there's anything we can assist with please reach out to us at board@forestlakesofchelsea.com, our volunteer board is in service to the community we love!

Reminder About Dogs, Leashes, and Community

The HOA Board occasionally gets complaints about off-leash dogs, dogs damaging property, and barking dogs.

We are working with each homeowner that is having an issue alongside Shelby County.

Shelby County has a leash law and the City of Chelsea has an animal control officer to assist with enforcement.

Many neighbors have confided in the HOA that they are not comfortable using our beautiful lake or taking walks within the neighborhood due to off-leash dogs.

Please remember, even the most well-behaved dogs can be intimidating to others. Choosing to keep them on a leash is choosing to be a courteous and thoughtful neighbor.

Please feel empowered to report off-leash pets, and nuisance pets to City Hall.

Per the City "If it continues to be an issue, then it can be escalated where law enforcement and the court would become involved."

City of Chelsea Ordinance, hosted on the City website.

February Food Trucks

See the calendar below on our scheduled food trucks for February.

Please keep in mind, weather can affect this schedule. The best place to stay up to date to cancelations or new additions is on our neighborhood Facebook page.

If you wish to get the calendar sent to your inbox at the beginning of each mont, go subscribe here.

Also, please keep in mind this schedule is managed by a volunteer in the community. Please make sure to give her a big thanks for all the hard work if you make it to Facebook.

Mailbox Standards and Repair

We just wanted to publish a friendly reminder that homeowners are responsible for keeping their mailboxes up and in good repair and that the mailbox must be an approved mailbox. With that said, the HOA has made the decision to waive all mailbox fines through the end of 2023 to give people the opportunity to get repairs done before 2024.

Here’s an example of a great neighborhood mailbox.

If you need help with mailbox repair, the HOA can recommend Mary Elaine Calma Beard who can be reached at 205-213-7929. Her services include:

  • $75 spruce up including rust removal, rust stop, repainting including flag and lettering

  • $135 for a total makeover

  • Total mailbox replacement

Mary works with a local welder, and lives in a neighboring development. Please reach out to her directly with any questions via text or call.

Additionally, the HOA has preapproved 2 mailboxes (seen below) from popular retailers, Amazon and Wayfair. You may find other options but please make sure to reach out to the HOA before using other options to ensure that you don’t incur fines.
